Welcome To Amish Country

Meet Your Hosts

Tim and Julie (Lamp) Rastetter grew up in the area, less than a mile apart from each other. They rode the yellow school bus together and were in many of the same classes at Berlin Elementary and, later, Hiland High School. Many years after they graduated and went their separate ways, they reconnected in 2018. And, in June of 2020, they married right down the road from the Cottage at Julie’s sister’s hilltop home. Julie owns and operates a digital marketing agency, LOKA Creative, and Tim is the founder of Dallas Draft Beer Services.

Tim’s family operated one of the oldest working woolen mills in the country up to its sale in the 1990s, the Rastetter Wool Mill, located just a few miles down the road between Berlin and Millersburg on State Route 39. You can still see the building that housed the working looms and served as a major area attraction during its time. Tim’s first job as a kid was washing sheep’s wool behind the Mill.

Julie’s parents, Larry and Karen Lamp, owned the Cottage before Tim and Julie bought it in January 2021. Julie grew up working at her mom’s shop, Country Craft Cupboard (now known as the Plaid Sheep Company) in Berlin. Before that, Julie’s sister (Lisa) and her husband Marlin owned the Cottage. Marlin and Lisa own a publishing company based in the other stone building in Winesburg (visit www.plainvalues.com). You can dive into the restoration of this beautiful property and learn the history of the building when you visit, as it is all documented.

Welcome to Winesburg Ohio – a place where time stands still.
